Lucky Number Thirteen

So here we are.  At the end of another year. Recollecting how it whooshed past, making us older and wiser. At the brink of 2013, I cannot foresee what lies ahead, but I know that this year will be important – I will turn 26,  two dear friends will get married, several epic movies will release and I hope various other exciting things will happen. As is customary, it is time to write that resolution post. The one in which I annually make promises to myself. I have decided to call them ‘goals’ this year. Resolutions just sound too dreamy to come true. Hence, I have made a few amends to my list. …

12 | 12: Twelve Learnings

Big year for learning, this one. Instances, people, books, experiences – teach. Over nine years of living out of home taught me much. Coming back home has its own share of things for me to learn. These are things I probably knew, but needed reminding: Invest in yourself. Take time to sit alone and get used to your own company. You will be amazed by the way it will feel. If people really want to keep in touch with you, they will always find a way. The world is selfish. There is no one appointed to protect your interests. So keep the superhero suit handy. You can never have it…

11 | 12: Twelve Moments Through The Viewfinder

I must confess that this year has seen less of my DSLR and much more of the iPhone camera. Owing to Instagram, a lot of the phone camera photographs taken got absolutely different dimensions and made it to this second last round up post for the year. Photographs are memoirs of the times. They help me remember things of the old, things that I have probably long forgotten. Of the ones I have taken, these are my top twelve for the year. Chocolate chip cake. Just out of the oven. Baby neice Joey on  Saraswati Pujo.Love the sun on her face. The London Eye & the Big Ben.Point of conjunction….

10 | 12: Twelve Highlights of 2012

After nine posts, there hardly seems to be anything that I haven’t recounted already, but I thought a year-round up post is necessary; one which talks about the twelve top-of-my-mind things which happened in the year. Apart from the rather hyped apocalypse of course – which well, didn’t happen. Thank the heavens I didn’t follow my initial idea and spend everything I have before the 21st!  Here are my highlights: I quit my second job. One that I really loved. Made a choice. I worked with one of the largest and most prestigious brands in the history of aviation – British Airways. I’m very proud of the work we did for them, and the…

9 | 12: Twelve Motion Picture Favourites

Anyone who knows me knows of my obsession with cinema. Rather inclined towards the collection, but I am so proud to announce that the “list” has now crossed 1500. In alphabetical order, these are the films that stood out this year: Arthur Christmas: The Christmas movie I waited over a year for. Ever wondered how Santa actually gets things done? The million letters from children, the nice-naughty index, the present sorting, the wrapping and the logistics. Seems like an absolute nightmare if you don’t have your processes sorted out. And above everything, it’s all got to be in secret until December. This movie will explain all! Barfi: The story of mute…

8 | 12: Twelve Festive Moments

‘Tis Christmas day today with the year end drawing close. Indeed, the most wonderful time of the year.  Dampened only slightly by my anti-secular workplace, my Christmas is going rather well. I’m listening to holiday music on online radio, changing the wallpaper every hour and watching the Home Alone series at work! Ha! It’s been a good year – here is a little snapshot of the most wonderful revels this year, in order of occurrence: Saraswati Pujo in Calcutta Valentine’s Day in London Ma’s Birthday in Gurgaon The 25th birthday. A new lens. And so many other presents! Rakhi with Chops, Raghav, lots of envelopes and Blue Dart receipts London…

7 | 12: Twelve Playlist Toppers

“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” ― Aldous Huxley. Music is my solace. My friend. My consolation. It makes me weep. It lifts my spirits. Gives me hope. Rejuvenates. Without music and earplugs, I would be a very sad, wandering soul. Music is my anchor. It was near impossible to pick favourites, but these are the twelve that have  made a difference: Phir Le Aaya Dil | Arijit Singh Almost all of Barfi’s songs were beyond brilliant. ‘Kyun’ by Papon is a close second by this number by Arijit Singh takes the cake. The Lightning Strike | Snow Patrol First heard during the trailer of upcoming…

6 | 12: Twelve Random Entertaining Things I Did

Know those little moments which seem like so much fun while you’re in the swing. For a while, you think of them, talk about them, and with time, they vanish from your memory. Then another day, years later a random picture, a conversation or a little post-it in your diary remind you of them. These are mine, from 2012: Got together with the girls for Ladies Night at Cafe Morrison. Got quite overwhelmed with the free cosmopolitans. Climbed aboard the Delhi metro in a rather inebriated state. For the whole story, click here Joined Pinterest. Publicized it to everyone I know, rather rigorously. But I am so proud of the…

5 | 12: Twelve Tweeple

Twitter has increasingly become a significant part of social existence. From discovering breaking news to discussing meaningful things in 140 characters, it is a fabulous platform that has been a constructive vehicle to spend time in airports, waiting rooms and all those million other places where you’re bored to death. Like Gmail often says “Important, mainly because of the people in the conversation” – Twitter is fun because of some of the comical, the sarcastic, the overtly serious, the perpetually random and the others as well.  The twelve I like best are: @TheHobbitMovie – the official Twitter handle of Peter Jackson’s three-part mega series. It is the first to share insights into…

4 | 12: Twelve Places I Stepped In

I wouldn’t really say that this has been the most exciting of years from the travel point of view. Something I intend to make up for next year. But more on that later… Although I cannot be more thankful for my London trip this February and all the excitement that came with it. It was most certainly the highlight. But here is my list of twelve captivating places I visited in twenty-twelve: The Bimmah Sinkhole, Sharqiyah Region, Oman The astronomy show at Calcutta’s renown Birla Planetarium The Calcutta Book Fair with Ma & Baba The National Museum in Delhi with Akshay The majestic Royal Opera House, Oman St. Paul’s Cathedral….
