Climb Ev’ry Mountain

There comes a time where you’re on the brink of losing control, the edge of the cliff, a despicable wall of blankness in front of you.  And then, suddenly there is daybreak, a cool breeze, a respite.  Whoever said that new and exciting things were all about fun? They are much more about the fear of leaving behind the comfortable and stepping in to the unknown.  Me and a  lot of people in my immediate circle are doing just that. Being brave. To be happy. To never have to say ‘What If’.  Maybe it will turn out wonderfully for some of us, and perhaps we might be a little let…

Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus

Today marks eighteen years to the day that the bespectacled boy-who-lived, discovered who he was, and there has no looking back ever-since! It has also been a year to the release of the final installment of the cinematic counterpart also came to an epic close. It was a rather emotional moment, causing me to write this post.   But the years have passed, and we have been made to believe that Harry is now grown up, married and says goodbye to his children on Platform Nine and Three Quarters. Somewhere deep inside, there are some of us who are still in a vacuum, uninterested to move on – from the eleven year old Harry…

Rise

Fiction and fantasy books are much more than some people credit them to be. They let your imaginations run. They make you believe. They make you learn good from bad. They are much more. This post derives inspiration from the much anticipated and recently released final installment of the Batman trilogy. I have not been an ardent a fan of the series – so much that I very recently watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Not to say that I was blown away – but I was stirred. Even with my limited knowledge of film-making, I can safely comment that Christopher Nolan is a genius. Although TDKR doesn’t have the…

Conquest Of Paradise

A few days ago I was curiously reminded of a video that was most regularly played before guest lectures and important occassions during my post graduation. It was one of those rare five minutes in the college auditorium, where the parade-like music thumped and there was pin-drop silence. I have often noticed that the passion and inspiration that sport brings, are hardly matched by any other. Be it the Indian blockbuster Chak De! India or the more recently discovered Hollywood flick Goal! The Dream Begins, I have been in awe of stories of common people rising up fro the dust and using the strength of their love towards the sport to push…

Keep Calm & Carry On

It has been impossible to miss the frenzy that the ‘Keep Calm’ series has become. From the original version, I have come across a variety of adaptations such as ‘Keep Calm & Do Some Cardio’, ‘Keep Calm & Fake a British Accent’, ‘Keep Calm & Conjure a Patronus Charm’ to the absolutely eccentric ‘Keep Calm & Be A Marwari’ ! All my time in London, I saw impressions of the message everywhere – in the Underground, Souvenir shops, T-shirts and Teacups. Made me all the more inquisitive to understand where this had originated. Only yesterday, I actually found out and what a brilliant story it was: Essentially, “Keep Calm and Carry…

Stoicism

I had once heard and I repeat, given the aptness of the situation;Sometimes what one needs to realise is that courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all. In times where so much seems to be in doubt, each day becomes more trying than the other, the only way out is – be brave.
