Invictus

I’ve always found poetry to be my favourite form of literature. Especially the sorts which have stories to tell in just four lines and keep you thinking for days after you read them. A friend shared this poem today and in light of some recent events, I thought they were some of the most beautiful and empowering verses I have read. Life hurls before us many choices – on making some we may feel delight or regret. It also brings forth several situations where we don’t have a say. Nothing can be done but be washed over by circumstance like a hapless bystander. What I find important here is that…

If.

I’m not a huge poem connoisseur, but this I’ve always had a weak spot for Rudyard Kipling’s works. Not just because he wrote so much about India, but that they had a certain soul to them.  I had read ‘If’ by Kipling when I was younger, but I think it is now that I understand a bit of what he meant to tell us. If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too: If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or,…

#LiveLikeJay

“We all come from the sea. But we are not all of the sea. I had been waiting for this one for a while. It’s about a sport that I find daunting, yet fascinating. Surfing. Riding skyscrapers made of water on a thin plastic board. The ocean is a treasure chest. Often as intimidating, as it is enigmatic. It carries deep secrets, places where man has never been, and might never even get to. The…

Why The Tears?

Washington Irving said,  “There is a sacredness in tears.  They are not the mark of weakness but of power.  They are messengers of overwhelming grief and of unspeakable love.” ***

World, Hold On…

You know that feeling when there’s so much you want to do but there seems to be strings tying you down?   That terrible ache when you see the world doing things that you’ve dreamt of?   That sinking thought which enters your head sometimes and whispers – “Maybe it’ll never happen for you.”?   That disappointment you feel when you’ve planned an entire trip and then have to erase it from your mind completely.   I find it extremely painful to know that the world is not equal. That some people have more than the others. I believe that if everyone had the same amount – everyone would have just…

New Innings

So I finally did make the move. After a very crazy August, where I spent a lot of time in airports and questioned myself repeatedly about the decision that I had taken – I find myself in a new place, surrounded by new people in an absolutely new environment altogether. The comfort zone is a really prized concept. I don’t know how people do this frequently. This wrapping up one life and starting another, in a wink. I have so much baggage – literally and metaphorically, that even the thought of doing this again exhausts me. Today is my fourth day at work at Zeenah PR, and there’s not a moment that goes…
