Oranje Country

Windmills. Wooden shoes. Canals. Van Gogh. Beer. Some of most extraordinary things in the world are owed to the Netherlands. And we were able to experience most on our one-day trip; getting the best of rural Holland and the modern Amsterdam. We set off from Eindhoven to reach Madurodam, a miniature park in the Scheveningen district of The Hague. Although I found it a tad boring, we had to appreciate the intricacy with which the models were created – especially the port area, Schipol airport (which was complete with moving luggage conveyor belts) and several of the nation’s landmarks. What I did enjoy very much were the flowers – although not in their peak,…

I feel I’m finally ready to narrate the experience which will be the highlight of my annual out-of-country vacation. The immediate action might have been majorly inspired by the commercial blockbuster, but I’ve always been deeply passionate about the ocean and watched countless documentaries and been in awe of those who were able to muster their courage and take the step. Scuba diving. Despite the innumerable constraints that Muscat poses, I was determined to brave the big blue and my unnerving galeophobia to prove to myself that indeed, darr ke aage jeet hai; In my case, jeet = renewed confidence. Having done most of my research while seated at my…

Muscat Travelogue | Bimmah Sinkhole

It has been months now that I have been craving for water bodies; Am mercilessly deprived in Gurgaon and have been trying to fill the gap by downloading innumerable pictures of beaches, lakes and other sea scapes.  This Eid holiday, since we had company, I put in a little extra effort to figure what water body existed in Oman that I had not been to yet – lo and behold I stumbled upon pictures of Bimmah Sinkhole and Wadi Shab.  Bimmah was a little surprise package, tucked away neatly into a little village of the newly constructed Sur – Quriyat freeway. The Bimmah Sinkhole is quite the geographical marvel! This…

The Good Friday Weekend!

It all began with a phone call and an extended Good Friday vacation which I had presumed I would be spending on my own in the onset of summers. I had been complaining for a while of my lack of travel ever since I had moved to Gurgaon, not very far away from completing a year now. Not that opportunity did not come my way, but somehow none of them worked out. This however, is the account of one which did. A trip to Himachal Pradesh, specifically, Thanedar; The route being rather longish looked somewhat like this: Delhi –> Ambala –> Kalka –> Shimla –> Narkanda –> Thanedar (and then…

Just Say Yes!

Been tripping on ‘Just Say Yes’ by Snow Patrol, ever since I stumbled across it today! Makes me strangely optimistic, not to forget the lights in the video which gives me a feeling of swimming underwater! Here’s to April, my most favourite month – hoping that I’ll be the ‘Yes-Woman’ 🙂

February 8, 2011

It amazes me how changes in weather patterns affect my state of mind, and overwhelmingly, to say so! At the end of a day wherein my mood was a dripping graph, almost about to dive into the downbeat quadrants, there was sudden lightning, and there came the rains! We’re in that time of the year where one cannot really trust the meteorological department and nearly everyone around you is fending to a leaky nose; In other words, Mother Nature (Yes, am a feminist :p) is temperamental and hasn’t really made up her mind as to whether the winters have actually ended, or the fog and chilly winds still had some…

Ami Kolkata

I have been most productive in my Kolkata mini-break. a) Have been making calls to all random organisations to allow me to come and make a presentation to them to recruit a few batch mates, in a little above slave labour rates. b) Have been taking appointments with my gynae, dermatologist and family physician to ensure I haven’t grown any new ailments. I don’t think I could deal with any more, at least for the nest 20 years! c) Have celebrated Holi with cousins, in Kolkata for the first time. All these years, we did the mad colour and water routine with friends. With family, it was much more civilized….
