Counting blessings.

It just dawned me on a few days ago that this September marked three years of my move from India to Oman. It was a dizzying thought, to picture how the time had flown past.

When most people ask me what it is like, here – I usually complain. I find myself harping over the 10 months of summer, the lack of public transportation, the general aura of apathy that the country wears, my friendless-ness and the list could really go on. Sitting at my recently redecorated cubicle on a particularly optimism-filled day, I thought to myself of how much good had come out of these past few years.

There is really something special about being home. I’m not referring here to the comforts that come with that; rather, pointing to being fortunate enough to be around the most important people in the world.

There is a subtle joy in partaking in heated discussions with the father about anything as wide ranging from racism to the moroseness of Rabindrasangeet, watching Masterchef Australia with the mother and then recreating Marco Pierre White’s Michelin star ‘Mac n Cheese’, having a terrible day at work and knowing that a safe haven awaits, being able to celebrate festivals as a family and so much more.

So I decided to recap a few of the reasons why I am counting my blessings today.

In my three years here, I..

Celebrated some amazing birthdays
Checked things off the parents’ bucket lists
Met new people and made some great new friends..
Took some photographs I am proud of, and will someday frame.
Got myself that coveted driving license and zipped around the city!
Celebrated festivals right
Witnessed some spectacular sunsets while sitting at the beach by myself
Made some remarkable achievements in the mobile gaming space 😛
Explored the world, with friends
Put up a really large world map in my room (long time dream)
Discovered new and beautiful places in Oman
Took self-timed photos on really important occasions.

Yes, the job feels really easy and at times uninspired after my previous stint at one of the top consultancies in the world, I hardly have two people I can call friends here, precipitation is so very rare and FaceTime is blocked. But this is home, and I have much to be grateful for 🙂

‘Til then, big love and happy weekend!
