Turning Pages

Books.

I love everything about them.

The mysteries they hold. The satisfying whiff when I hold them close. The anticipation when you have to leave them midway and the gratification in having completed a story.
Reading from Mischief Managed, I thought of listing the ones that top my list and the ten authors who will always be on my auto-buy list.
J.K. Rowling. For the pure magic she spins. Except for her most recent work, of course.
J.R.R. Tolkien. For his sheer genius. And for creating something epic.
George R.R. Martin. For direwolves, Game of Thrones and giving honour the place it deserves in the big bad world.
Jhumpa Lahiri. For writing such wonderful short stories. And weaving Bengal in so beautifully.
Enid Blyton. For her contributions towards making my imagination as creative as it is. Somewhere deep inside, I still believe that the Magic Faraway Tree might just exist.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. For his attention to detail. And yes, for Sherlock Holmes.
Satyajit Ray. For creating a Bengali Sherlock. And his innumerable contributions to fiction.
Christopher Paolini. For breathing life into dragons. The Inheritance Series will always be close to my heart.
Roald Dahl For all that he has taught children through his stories. And for Willy Wonka.
Dan Brown. For writing pure gold. For creating those plots which take you on a rollercoaster ride and when you turn the last page, you’re stunned beyonf belief. Not to forget, his educating the world about symbology. Thanks to him, I know quite a lot about the ongoing Conclave.
For all these reasons, creative minds and more, books are and always will be my best friends. One day, when I have a little home of my own, this is where I’ll be found.

Sunny bean bag and books

The Muscat International Book Fair is on and I will be there for my part of the loot this weekend. Booyah!
