A Ceylon Odyssey

I’m usually known to procrastinate specific things in life like exercise, collecting on finances and making phone calls among others, but I feel most guilty when I delay writing travelogues. From personal experience, I feel that the memories and trivia are most fresh within the week of returning from a trip, making it the opportune moment to pen it down for memory’s sake. It has been over two months to my trip to the island nation of Ceylon, and I’ve only got down to penning it down today. Milan and I had been planning to travel together for almost over a year. The Calcutta monotony was getting to her and…

August 4, 2013

So it’s finally here.  Three days away from embarking on the Europe trip, I have dreamed of, spent hours researching, made multiple documents for, I’m brimming with excitement.  From the time that I land in Munich, to the time I take off from Milan, I’m sure I will think of nothing else.  And yes, a 32 GB memory card has been purchased for my camera.  Summer in Europe awaits. See you all at the other end of August! PS: Happy 300th post to me 🙂

Day 11# Wanderlust

Travel! Now this is what I call exciting content. Ah, the thought is so refreshing. It has not even been a month that I’ve been back from my American vacation and am already itching to pack my bags and set off on another trip! In my mind, there are two distinct travel to-do lists. One is the achievable list and the other is the aspirational.  But this post is about the former. With a lot of difficulty, I have narrowed the plentiful options to ten. So here are the places which I intend to cover in the next ten years of my life. Australia Its right at the other end…

The American Sojourn!

So it has been a week that I returned from the States and I’m not even close to wearing off the jet lag. Now that I’m actually feeling more like myself, an account is necessary. So where shall I start… Reetika, Richa and I know each other from the time that we went to college at SCMS-UG – around the time that the iPod classic first generation was in vogue. Through three years of gruelling education, living it up in Pune, marking proxy attendance in class, study and sleepover sessions, birthday acquisition trips and feasting on the Smokey Chicken Wrap from the corner wrap store –Wrap Around – we made it…

Isla Mujeres

This little island off the coast of Mexico has been on my radar for a while. Ask me why? Because it is a part of the planet where nature puts up a spectacular display that is not only immensely fascinating, but ethereal.  Swimming with whale sharks. That’s what these Mexican waters have in store. Before you shake your head thinking that this is one of those things you’ve seen on Animal Planet (Read: Man in a cage feeding great white sharks), let me tell you, its not even close.  These gentle mammals are unlike any sharks you’ve ever heard of. In fact, they take on more of whale-like attributes. Feeding only on…

In a Paris state of mind..

So today I spent almost all day collecting and pinning pictures of the Eiffel Tower to a new board on Pinterest.   I saw the majestic structure in person when I was younger; along with some bikini clad Frenchwomen. But I can remember neither clearly.   Although the Tour De Eiffel has been a world landmark, there’s so much we do not know about it! For example, this beauty was initially hated by the French. Novelist Guy de Maupassant, even used to have lunch in the Tower’s restaurant – that was the only place in Paris where he couldn’t see this ‘disgusting’ structure. He passed on, but the Eiffel lingered…

Two Dozen Plus One

As the clock turns to twelve and I stepped into the much debated twenty five, I am inundated with a multitude of sentiments. It is true that age is only just a number, but the fact that I will no longer be able to check the 18 to 24 age box is slightly unnerving. Reaching a quarter of a century, I want to make a conscious decision to change for the better. To do things that I have always wanted to and ensure that I be fair to my dreams, no matter what. I know I may not achieve anything immediately; but I will at least take little steps towards…

Glyph of Ink!

It is one of those things you put so much thought into. Years of contemplation. Umpteen number of searches. But from what I’ve seen, heard and experienced – it mostly happens on impulse. Yes, what I’m rambling about is a tattoo! In 2010, one fine morning Ankita walked out of the PG while we were asleep – and came back with a tribal pattern on her nape. Last year, on the first day of the year I accompanied PK to get her phoenix – once again on impulse. So, on the first Monday of the year, I decided to accompany Milan to hold her hand while she got inked. And…

Cruising through…

Mobility is critical in the world we live in. Depending on others for any given thing is no less than imprisonment. The pangs are deeper when one lives an ‘independent’ life, has to take most decisions alone and is forced to battle through smaller and relatively large instances by themselves. It is almost criminal to not be self sufficient in most areas. Which brings me to how significant driving is. The need felt the most desperate for the past year and half – my stint in Gurgaon. Prior to this, Pune and Kolkata didn’t pose problems as the cities are extremely well connected and public transport is affordable and comfortable….

Down “Under”

I find myself on the verge of doing one the most exciting of things that I have ever undertaken. Exhilaration quotient is high. Updates, as soon as I find my legs. And arms.
