Magic in the Mundane.

Do you ever think that social media might just be creeping into our minds sneakily and filing it with poisonous thoughts? Do you sigh quietly, looking at the very many albums of your Facebook ‘friend’ who just sky-dived in Maui, took macro pictures in Petra, ate scones in Central London or posed with the snow at Jungfrau? Do you sometimes feel that you would better off, unwired? Does it ever … Continue reading “Magic in the Mundane.”

Crêperie, s’il vous plaît?

I am often told that I do not eat to live, but rather eat to live.  Food is my panacea.  For when I’m low, when I’m ecstatic, when I’m afraid, when boredom strikes, or even life seem hopeless! As I have already written before, one of my most favourite television shows is definitely the Master Chef series. I also take particular pride in my ‘Gourmandise’ board on Pinterest. Now, since … Continue reading “Crêperie, s’il vous plaît?”

Mirage

Isn’t it almost magical when something you least expect comes to life? It was an identical emotion when dark clouds appeared out of the blue and there were raindrops on my head this Thursday. Like I have told many, seeing a cloud cover used to prompt us to ask for a ‘free period’ in school.  The magnitude of actual precipitation can be imagined. Rumbling thunder, cracks of lightning, subtle showers.  Makes for any … Continue reading “Mirage”

Almost Pujo

Today is Mahalaya. The invoking of life in the idol of Goddess Durga. The beginning of what will be an entire week, followed by a hangover of a month of festivities. Today is the  one day when almost everyone is awake at the break of dawn. Probably the only day when the people of Bengal tune into AIR to listen to Mahisashur Mardini by Birendra Krishna Bhadra and quietly hum … Continue reading “Almost Pujo”

Tangerine

I happened to go through some old posts yesterday and came across the first one I had ever written here. I realised that I’ve been writing for over three years.  Over the years, I have been rather regular. Probably missed a month or two in the middle when work was crazy, but mostly, anything significant in the last few years has been carefully documented. I have Richa to thank, for coming down … Continue reading “Tangerine”

The Elusive Divine

India is a land of diversity. I often find myself explaining to people how diverse we actually are.   Out of the multitude of languages, cultures, religions and beliefs, what interests me most is how we are able to maintain our secularist nature.   For over years, countries have fought over a religion or two. We have over 35,000 gods in the Hinduism sect. The magnitude of the coexistence is indeed … Continue reading “The Elusive Divine”

London Dreams

London through rose-tinted glasses  I dreamt of London last night.   I dint know why but its still as clear as it can get.   There wasn’t anything eventful in the dream but I found myself roaming endlessly and aimlessly in the city.   I took pictures of the Big Ben and Instagrammed it (Yes, even in the subconscious)   I lived in a house with a bright red door.   I … Continue reading “London Dreams”

Month-old

Seems like just the other day that I was packing bags and cartons to send via Gati to Kolkata. Only last week that I walked into the cabin at Edelman India to say goodbye. Just the last weekend that I had such a gloriously drunken time with the girls at home. And just like that I look at the calendar and it’s been a month at Zeenah today. It’s a … Continue reading “Month-old”

Paradise Falls

I’ve lifted this video and the inspiration to this post off a friend’s blog.   How could I not.   There are love stories and then there are these.   Pixar has and continues to transport us into a world which we might never be able to visit with their imagination and belief in magic.   This part of the 2009 animation movie ‘Up’ is beyond words.   Eight minutes of living … Continue reading “Paradise Falls”
